Aviva Online Car Insurance – My Experience

Just thought of writing my personal experience with Aviva Singapore. As usual I renew my car insurance and road tax on the very last day of expiry. I did went to Aviva (S) website to get my quote online and proves to be cheaper than my previous insurer. But to be fair I think Aviva car insurance online provide a better and flexibility in terms of coverage. You can actually choose the terms to include such as named driver, named driver from age 25 above, name driver age 30 above, or insured only. There are also other forms of saving such as “going green” paperless certificate of insurance which saves about another $25. You also have the flexibility of including/excluding accidentally coverage of $100,000. Overall, you can play around with the figures by including or excluding terms which you might need. In these way it can actually saves you on your premium. Other than that the rest of the terms are quite similar to other insurer.

The day was rush for me as I did bought the insurance from Aviva last night online paying through my debit card and had to renew my road tax by today. Then I realized that I cannot pay my road tax through AXS machines as the insurer only update to LTA 3 working days later. The problem at the point in time was that I did not have the certificate of insurance (CI) cause I opted the “paper” policy to be mailed to me therefore I was not able to renew the road tax even if I was able to pay at Singpost. In the end I had to call Aviva to send me a copy of my CI which I receive within minutes.

The only fortunate thing that happen today is that the Singpost I visited operate till 9pm which gave me ample time to go to after my work which ended at 6.30pm today.

When I thought my day have ended smoothly and about to go to sleep two guy appear at my door, one guy and one lady whom the lady I recognized from Singpost. According to them they did not swipe my card when I actually gave my card to the lady at Singpost so no money was deduct to my account…. To cut the story short, I check my account and it seems that the amount was not deducted so I had to go to an ATM to draw out the cash to pay them on the spot. I recall that the lady did not swipe my card and at that point in time I thought I they could deduct by just tapping my card but why I did not point out to her because she was in a bad mood that’s why I did not ask too much in fear that I might get a nasty reply.

So in conclusion, customer service Ms Doris Kang provided an excellent service by the speedy response, my friend Mr Kang provide the operating  timing to Singpost whom both I appreciated the help.

I hope the above provide a useful review of Aviva Car Insurance Online. Do feel free to drop any comments, questions or thoughts.

I actual heard a negative feedback from my colleague the other day. Although the premiums are cheap but when comes to claim there are a lot of exclusion. Think they would honor the claim if the car is in stock without any modifications including tires. Not sure how true the statement only way to find out is when it happens to me. Welcome any comments if any?

Sorry I’m a 1st timer what do they mean excess of $500?

  • Bryan says:

Hi Aman, excess means the amount you have to paid in the event if the insurance claim is at your fault. These excess amount can be between few hundred dollars to few thousands of dollars. You can play along these excess amount to get a lower premium. The higher the excess amount lower is the premium and vice verse. Just bare in mind in the event if the claim is against you then you have to fork out these excess amount.
